Selected Reviews:

British Theatre Guide review (5 stars): "Shakespeare has room for everyone to put their mark on. And when something exciting comes along, it validates the potential. Hackney Empire’s production of Macbeth has the shoulders of Bernstein (West Side Story), Cole Porter (Kiss Me, Kate) and others to balance on. They’ve aimed high. With music and dance from the R & B, hip-hop, and Afrobeat world, we see Macbeth negotiating up the ladder in the British music world." http://www.britishtheatreguide.info/reviews/macbeth-c-chamber-stree-13346

Fest review (4 stars): "Perhaps we’ve become numb to productions of Macbeth at the Fringe. In all likelihood, this year’s festival will probably mark the same number of versions as the years since Shakespeare’s death. But when his texts are completely reclaimed by new generations of artists and theatre-makers, they continue to take on provocative and far more interesting lives of their own."

Edinburgh Guide review (4 stars): "TWIST are not the first company to click that Shakespeare and rap merge nicely or update the action, but there is a fresh energy and synchronicity to this talented ensemble that envelops you in their performance, despite their being some clunky corners."

Fringe Guru review (3 stars): "There’s no doubting the energy on display throughout this production, and there’s a great group dynamic between the actors during their musical performances. The choreography was edgy and clean. The iconic line “Fair is foul and foul is fair” is now a lyric in an upbeat number performed by the trio of Witches, while the song “Be A Man”, which Lady Macbeth sings to her husband, reveals their intense relationship while staying true to the jazzy street style of the play. For me, it’s the music that stands out most in this production, setting the modern tone and showing the range of skills possessed by these talented individuals."

BroadwayBaby review (3 stars): "Twist Theatre Company’s R’n’B infused musical adaptation of the infamous Scottish history play, billed as Shakespeare meets Empire, is a messy but still engaging and enjoyable take on the classic tragedy." http://www.broadwaybaby.com/shows/macbeth/715788
