As part of the official programme commemorating the 400th year anniversary of the deaths of Tang Xianzu and William Shakespeare, Performance Infinity helped the ‘The Malachites’ break new ground by taking responsibility for their first international tour of China.
Founded in 2013 ‘The Malachites’ are a site-specific theatre company who aim to reconnect Shakespeare and his plays to the areas in which he lived and worked, as well as bringing their own unique style to an international audience.
This year saw the Malachites take Hamlet, perhaps Shakespeare’s most revered play, to the Guangzhou Dramatic Arts Centre, China. Having previously played in venues ranging from historic gardens to Churches, this was an event not to be missed. In conjunction with Performance Infinity, ‘The Malachites’ production received critical acclaim, performing to a sold out Chinese audience.

A note on Benjamin Blyth, Artistic Director:
Benjamin is a director, actor, writer and producer who graduated from Christ’s College, Cambridge with a first-class degree in History in 2009. He also holds an MA in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (2012) and an MST from the Judge Business School, Cambridge (2009). His most recent directorial venture, HAMLET, which is set to tour the UK and China, is Benjamin’s thirteenth professional production as a director.
He is predominantly interested in Shakespeare, particularly exploring the origins of English drama, and magic within Shakespeare’s work. He is currently looking to reconnect Shakespeare with Shoreditch through championing the “Shoreditch 19”, Shakespeare’s early works written while he was a resident in East London. Benjamin founded The Malachites in 2013 with Associate Director Claire Dunlop for this purpose. Previous productions include Titus Andronicus (2013), The Merchant of Venice, Richard II, A Midsummer Night’s Dream & Othello (2014), King Lear, Macbeth, & Twelfth Night (2015).
