A Winter's Tale, The Willow Globe Company

Shakespeare's late romance, The Winter's Tale (a tale of jealous furies, an abandoned baby, a sheep shearing feast and a bear) was performed in The Willow Globe (Y Glôb Byw), a scaled down, living version of the Globe in London (a third of its size in diameter) in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, Wales. Its Artistic Directors Phil Bowen and Sue Best believe it is one of the largest willow constructions in the country and probably the only one in use as a theatre in the world.

Tomorrow, Rambert Dance Company

Following her work with director Carrie Cracknell on the Young Vic production of Macbeth (November 2015 - January 2016), Australian choreographer Lucy Guerin returned to the play in her dance piece Tomorrow. The performance featured an original score by composer, sound and multimedia artist Scanner (Robin Rimbaud) and aimed to "[give] physical life to the psychological conflict that led Macbeth to murder." Tomorrow "[re-imagined] Shakespeare's Macbeth - mapping out the actions of the characters alongside the illusory, supernatural and psychological disturbances of the play embodied by the cast of 'witches'."

People’s Palace Projects/Shakespeare Lives, Brazil

“The Shakespeare Forumexpands its programming in 2016 to present an unpublished version of Macbeth, signed by award-winning English actor Greg Hicks and one of the leading names in The Royal Shakespeare Company. The cast is made up of nine Brazilian actors. Selected by Hicks himself, these actors went through a process of auditions that received about 650 submissions. Of this total, some were selected by the SP School of Theater and 36 professionals underwent an intense training on Shakespeare, taught by Bernadeth Alves. Greg, who already has a dialogue with Brazil, invited the master of capoeiraCarlo Alexandre Teixeira to be his assistant director looking to create an innovative and unusual version of Macbeth . Another Brazilian involved in the assembly is the playwright from Ceará Marcos Barbosa.” –description from the People’s Palace Projects website

Crossings: exploring the facets of Lady Macbeth

Crossings: exploring the facets of Lady Macbeth

This performance explores Lady Macbeth in all her magnificent complexity. Four performers play facets of Lady Macbeth in constant conflict, using Kathak dance, movement, text from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and Hindustani classical folk and tribal music to create a piece that is as much constantly improvised as directed in performance. With references to figures from Indian mythology such as Putana and Shakti, this piece examines what it means to be feminine or de-feminised through the contradictions within this complex character.

Macbeth 馬克白

Following Tang's minimalist, metatheatrical black-box physical theatre adaptation of Titus Andronicus (which also toured to the London Globe), Tang adapts Macbeth in a metatheatrical narrative in which a couple dreams that they enter the world of Macbeth in ancient China. They become Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, and once they wake up from the dream, they reflect on contemporary politics. This production is stylized.

Macbeths, Catford

"This is a story of love. And the lengths you might go to when you love somebody that much. In the safety of the bedroom, in their own private world, a couple are at their most vulnerable. You are invited to sit, invisible, in the midst of this intimate space, to voyeuristically observe a relationship you may think you already know through a more focused, or more distorted, lens. Using only Shakespeare’s original text, David Fairs re-orchestrates Macbeth into: Macbeths. Holding each other together can be the same as tearing each other apart." This is a premiere of a reworking of Macbeth that is part of the Catford-upon-Avon Festival.

Complete Works: Table Top Shakespeare

“A salt and pepper pot for the king and queen. A vase for the prince. A matchbox for the servant. A toilet roll tube for the Innkeeper. A water bottle for the messenger.

In Complete Works six performers create condensed versions of each and every Shakespeare play, comically and intimately retelling them, using a collection of everyday objects as stand-ins for the characters on the one-metre stage of an ordinary table top."
